About Me

Hi Everyone!

First, allow me to humbly thank all of you that have taken time out of your day to view my blog!

This was me permed...

My curly girl look after a perm...

I am 27 years old and reside in Orange County, NY (Cornwall, NY).  I was born and raised in the boogie down BX and miss it dearly lol.  Like many who transition I had my first perm when I was about 12?....I had excellent maintenance thanks to my mom...I went to the salon every weekend!

Being 1/2 Dominican and1/2 black My hair would curl a little when it was wet and I ALWAYS loved this look!

I decided to go natural in February of 2011.  I decided to transition to natural instead of doing the BC (big chop).  Reason being, I was used to having some sort of hair on my head and did not know how I would feel if I was....bald... There is NOTHING wrong with those who choose to BC.  I actually admire them!  I wish I had the confidence to walk around with a fade (yall ladies be KILLIN it!).  Realistically, those who BC will probably have a smoother transition and won't have to deal with the two textures.

me, weavin it

My last perm was around January/February of 2011.  I had various weaves for about the first four months.  My hair didn't break off at all!  However, I used the same stylist and let her know that she could not braid tight!  I also left my edges out as this is the most delicate area of my hair. I had curly weaves so I had no problem blending my edges to my weave.  I also did not leave the weave in for a prolonged period of time.  As soon as I felt tugging when I combed my hair, it was time to be re-braided!

After four months I decided to take the weaves down and embrace my natural texture....lol...it was NOT EASY!! My go to style's were twistouts and bantu-knot twistouts.  I also experimented with rod sets (I preferred the twist-outs).

I experienced what most transitioners do...HATERS!! all of the time!  One thing I learned during this process was that people are scared of change.  Our hair represents a big portion of us as human beings. Think about it, when we wake up pissed off and are rushing that is the ONE DAY that our hair will not listen to us!  When we feel great and happy our hair is normally full of life and bounce!  Now, during the transitioning period you may have more unruly days than others which may cause people to look down on your hair or ask you when you are going to get a perm.  If you let these people and comments get to you, you will perm your hair!

night of my BC...
I had about 4 inches
to work with!!!

My first day of all natural hair was R.O.U.G.H!!! Having this low, TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro) was so foreign to me!  I relied on youtube and blogs to educate me on styling my newly natural hair!

I learned so many techniques, what worked for others, what didn't and how to treat my hair.  It is SO different than working with permed hair. EVERYTHING changed!  From my routine, to the products I used; and even hair accessories!!!

I am about to hit my 3 month nappiversary and I am STILL LEARNING what works for me and my hair.  With support and dedication you will have beautiful, natural hair that you can be proud of!  Stay nappy ladies!

01/11/12---SOOOO--my 3 month nappiversary is approaching in 3 days, I had a min self photo shoot and could not get over how FAB the natual tresses were looking!
